About Us

Our Story

In 2002, I met Chami at the Sri Lanka Tourist Board, where we worked as colleagues. Two years later, in July 2004, we tied the knot. Eager to start our life together, we rented a small house in a quaint neighborhood. It was in this cozy home that our son was born in March 2005. Our little family was blissfully happy until 2010 when our landlord suddenly decided to sell the property. We were devastated. We didn’t have the money to buy it, but we couldn’t bear the thought of losing our sweet home.

In our time of need, our dear friends and colleagues rallied around us. With their help, we were able to buy the house and make it our own. For the next eight years, it remained our beloved home. But we had a dream—a dream of creating something even more special.

In 2018, our little home transformed into our dream home. We both worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. By 2022, our cherished abode had become “Casa 18,” crafted with the help of a dedicated team of architects. We take immense pleasure and great pride in sharing our home with visitors from around the world, showcasing the beauty of our country.

From the moment you step into Casa 18, you’ll feel the difference. To us, you are unique—you are never just a room number. You may arrive as a visitor, but you will always leave Casa 18 as a friend and may even return as part of our family.

“Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.” – Frank Gehry. This quote perfectly encapsulates the essence of Casa 18, a remarkable architectural marvel located in the National Housing Scheme of Kiribathgoda, Sri Lanka. Designed by chartered architect Samitha Basnayaka under the mentorship of the esteemed Sri Lankan architect Vinod Jayasinghe, this project is a testament to the harmonious blend of simplicity and elegance.

Casa 18’s owner, Mr. Sujeewa, had a distinct vision for his dream home, which he meticulously communicated to Architect Basnayaka. The collaboration resulted in a truly extraordinary residence that mirrors the owner’s personality and style. Architect Basnayaka drew significant inspiration from the legendary Geoffrey Bawa’s work, incorporating upcycled building elements and materials to bestow the house with a rustic yet contemporary charm, seamlessly integrating it within the National Housing Scheme’s context.

The allure of Casa 18 lies in its simplicity. The clean lines and open spaces evoke a sense of calm and tranquility, while the strategic use of natural light and ventilation ensures a comfortable living environment. The interior design extends the exterior’s aesthetic, fostering a harmonious flow throughout the home. The meticulous attention to detail and functionality makes Casa 18 an exemplary model of contemporary architecture. Whether you are an architect, designer, or an admirer of beautiful spaces, Casa 18 is bound to inspire and captivate.
